Monitoring system Ethernet line protection design

I. Overview of interfaces

RJ45 Ethernet interface is the most widely used interface for communication equipment, and the EMC performance of Ethernet port is related to the stable operation of communication equipment.

II. Ethernet Interface Circuit Design

1  Ethernet circuit protection

The protection of Ethernet circuits requires a more fine-grained treatment, as its implementation (indoor to outdoor) will determine the level of robustness required to protect the device. The basic question that needs to be answered is whether the user is the only threat (consider ESD) or whether the port will also be affected by lightning transients. For installations where the Ethernet port is connected to a local router or indoor camera, there is little to no lightning coupling to the circuit, so ESD would be the only threat. In this case, the capacitance of the protection device should be around 4pF or less, since the data rate is greater than 100mb/s.

For those installations (equipment boxes) with long cables (100m) where Ethernet hardware is mixed with electrical hardware and circuitry, standards such as GR-1089 can be applied. In these cases, the specifications in the building are the most important, which include provisions for the use of up to 100A peak pulse current (for 2/10μs waveforms) for two-pair interfaces (e.g., 100Base-T) and 36.4A peak pulse current (1.2/50μs and 8/20μs waveforms) per conductor for four-pair systems (e.g., 1000base-T) Regulations.

For Ethernet installations where the camera is outdoors, the likelihood of directly coupled lightning transients is very high. In this case, a lightning surge is defined as having a peak pulse current of 500A (for a 2/10μs waveform). 2  Power over Ethernet

As mentioned above, the key to the ease of installation of many surveillance camera systems is Power over Ethernet (PoE). As expected, this adds another consideration to the protection scheme - it is not present in the standard data-only Ethernet circuitry. That is, at both ends of the application, Ethernet circuits are connected to the power supply. On one side is the power supplying equipment (PSE) that provides the power, and on the other side is the powered device (PD) that uses the power, such as an IP camera.

In addition to protecting the data lines, the power supply (PSE or partial discharge) is also protected. In other words, protect the data lines based on the type of installation (ESD only or surge + ESD) and add power protection based on its unique needs. Consideration should also be given to how the power supply is implemented (Mode A or Mode B).

Mode A and Mode B implementations refer to how power is loaded or removed from the Ethernet circuitry. For 100Base-T Ethernet, only two available objects are used. The other two pairs are spares and are not used. For Mode A PoE, power will be realized on the spare objects. In a Mode B installation, power will be realized on the data lines. Finally, it should be noted that the direction of the DC power signal (up to 57 Vdc) is not specified. It can be inserted into any of the poles.

The most common power protection solution is to use a bidirectional TVS diode between the input and the power supply. Regardless of polarity, the bidirectional diode is chosen to avoid line voltage.

Transient protection (ESD and surge) should be considered to ensure the reliability of security system components and network functions throughout the life of the installation. In most cases, only basic ESD protection is required, and equipment or cables exposed to open outdoor environments should also be protected from the threat of lightning surges. Power supplies are also subject to transient voltage events and require protection.

2) Add shrapnel to the connection between the fuselage and the 100 Megabit Ethernet metal connector to maintain good conductivity when the two connectors are connected. The specific overlay is shown in the figure above.

1  Cable design

1) RJ45 signal cable is shielded with mesh braided shielding layer, and the braiding density of the mesh braided layer is not less than 90%;

2) Internal wiring, differential cable using twisted-pair transmission, twisted-pair distance is generally 3 times the diameter of the signal cable;

3) Magnetic rings shall be added to both ends of the cable. The inner diameter of the magnetic ring should be close to the outer diameter of the cable. Try to choose thick and long magnetic rings.

2) Cables should be wired separately or at a distance of 250px or more from other analog and power cables and should not be bundled with other cables.
